The Boom Dang Foundation has worked in partnership with Sedbergh Drive (part of Children’s Services) for the past 8 years to deliver music sessions to Looked After Children. We are currently running a Youth Music funded project called Beat Loop. Working at Sedbergh Drive (Kendal), Hawthwaite Lane (Barrow-in-Furness), Over-End (Whitehaven) and Blackwell Road (Carlisle), we run music sessions using Garageband, Live Loops, Boom Dang drums, keyboards and a mobile recording studio. We run weekly sessions, holiday clubs and show + tells. Beat Loop builds confidence amongst the young people, that whilst taking part in the music session, learn new skills. New friendships are formed, trust in adults is gained and leadership is supported. Young people are supported to achieve a Bronze Arts Award.

“I have had the pleasure of working alongside Therese Johnston for a number of years. Her work with young people is truly both inspirational and aspirational. As well as providing positive and secure environments where young people learn and grow, Therese is also well versed in the ‘art of possibility’, creating, inventing and reaching for new experiences with and for the young people she works with. Therese is a clear communicator and teacher and cohesive and contributive within a team environment. Therese is reliable, creative, inciteful and a joy to know. I would recommend anybody who works with young people to make themselves aware of Therese, and her work with Boom Dang.”
